Winter Fun at Wisp

Wisp at Deep Creek Mountain Resort is a playground of winter fun. From skiing and snowboarding down the slopes and racing down Bear Claw snow tubing park, to catching air in the new Super Pipe or Devil’s Arena Terrain Park—Wisp has something for everyone.

Wisp has one of the most extensive snowmaking and grooming systems in the world. With the ability to continu-ally replenish their 12 ponds with water from Deep Creek Lake, Wisp now has the capacity to make snow 20% faster, pumping six thousand gallons of water to the snowmaking guns every minute. That’s approximately 2,150 tons of snow every hour. Wisp now has four times the amount of water and 15% more snowmaking equipment, meaning they can make snow earlier, more consistently and more often. Although 2001/2002 was an unseasonably warm winter, Wisp always had 4 feet of snow on 95% of their trails, and remained open throughout the month of March.

New additions to the ski and snowboard park include a Super-Pipe and the expansion of the snow tubing park.

The Wisp Super-Pipe is a mountain monster sculpted from the world’s best snowmaking system with vertical walls up to 15’ high, looming over a smooth transition 54’ wall to wall. The overall length is a mind-boggling 400’ carved out of the snow with a state-of-the-art Piston Bully Super Magician.

Wisp is adding two more lanes to Bear Claw Snow Tubing Park to keep up with the popularity of America’s fastest growing winter activity. Snow tubing is the perfect outdoor activity and is fun for all ages. There are no lessons needed or expensive equipment to buy or maintain. Two surface tow-ropes carry tubers to the top of six runs. Guests ride the tube to the bottom of the hill and simply attach the tow-rope ring to the tube handle to ride back up.

Wisp offers learn-to-ski and snowboard lessons that guarantee results in one day, private instruction for intermediates and advanced, and women’s and junior clinics. The latest in skis and snowboards are available for rent, as is new snow play toys like snow bikes and snow shoes.
Wisp caters to groups of any size, from corporate team outings to family reunions. With three restaurants, food court and mountainside coffee café, in addition to banquet facilities, Wisp can arrange a function for any size group.

Wisp is located on Marsh Hill Road in McHenry, Maryland. For more information, call (301) 387-4911 or visit the web site at www.skiwisp.com.
