Join in a celebration of the areas Celtic roots at the McHenry Highland Festival, Saturday, June 7, 2003. Fun is the keyword for this day of family entertainment. With Marsh Mountain and Deep Creek Lake as a backdrop, vocalists and instrumentalists present the music of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. From the soft tones of the harp to the thrilling sounds of pipes and drums as five bagpipe bands take to the field, the mountains ring with music that day. Military encampments offer a step back in time. Sheepdog demonstrations and livestock shows keep the rural atmosphere of Marylands highlands in focus. Stay back as brawny athletes test their skills with the hammer and caber. Join in with the clan displays, piping demonstrations, kids stuff, and a variety of Celtic vendors and crafters. Scottish dance and piping competitions, a British car show and plenty of food, offer just some of the things for the fair-goer. Rain or shine, the celebration will continue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Garrett County Fairgrounds.
